History of drums!

Drums
The very first people began to beat on empty things, as tree etc.. After a long time they discovered that if you span an animal skin on a empty tree it sounds much better. The first drum was discovered.
The Beginning of Drum kits
Drum kits haven't got such a long history. All the music we nowadays listen to is born from the blues and jazz. In the years before 1900 there played two drummers in the blues and jazz bands. One who plays on the snare and another who plays on a big drum (the bass drum). There was a little cymbal on the top of that big drum. The drummer plays that little cymbal by hitting it with another cymbal.
The Kick Pedal
In 1909 William Ludwig had made a important invention for drummers. He invented the kick pedal. With this invention there was only one drummer needed for the blues and jazz bands. A drummer could now play the snare and the bass drum.
Drum kits from nowadays
When the kick pedal was invented, there was almost a drum kit. One thing wasn't invented yet; the hi-hat pedal. In the time before this invention, they imitated a hi-hat by a kick pedal, which had a little bar that hits a cymbal. The first drummers used drum from china, which couldn't be tuned.
In 1935 were the first tuneable drums invented. Then the drum kits began to look like as a drum kit from nowadays. These drum kits had animalskins as drumheads. It sounds good, but if it was too damp the animalskins sounds lower. And if it was dry they sounds very high. You had to tune all the time.
In 1957 came the first plastic drumheads, which was a good improvement for the drum kits. Remo, Evans and Ludwig have made them from the beginning and they still make them.
Cymbals
Cymbals have a longer history then the drum kits. They weren't the same as nowadays. That kind of cymbals were invented in 1623 in Turkey. In 1929 Zildjian, the oldest cymbalmark of the world began to export their cymbals to Amerika. Then they began to make cymbals especial for drummers.
